Israel, Hamas, and mediators signed first-phase implementation steps on October 9, 2025, and the ceasefire entered into effect the next day. Israeli forces partially withdrew, all 20 remaining living Israeli hostages were released, Israel released Palestinian prisoners and detainees, and humanitarian operations expanded.
The agreement did not instantly settle Gaza's future. UN reporting described the ceasefire as fragile amid continued Israeli strikes, internal fighting in Gaza, casualties, and disputes over disarmament, reconstruction, governance, and further withdrawals. As of July 2026 the deal has not formally ended, so this entry is marked fragile, not holding or collapsed.
